I'm pretty neutral about OCs in general. I've seen quite a few of the OC that are too perfect, overly romanticized, or that have no character. A lot of OCs are like that. But, look at the audience: it's aimed at preteens and teenagers and that's generally the range of people who make these OC. They make them 'perfect' and the center of attention, because the character is most often them. Their self inserts. It's what and how they want to see themselves and how they want the world to see them. That's one way of looking at it, anyway.

With the Sexualized bodies: I've always seen anime as highly sexualized. With mini skirts, pantie shots, overly large breasts that jiggle, ect. Sexualized is kinda the norm in anime. I'm not saying that's a good thing, because I don't think it is. But, if they've seen FMA then they've probably seen other anime that sexualize male and female characters. So, while it's not the ideal way to make a character, it doesn't' come as a surprise to me to see this done so often.

But, most of these OC makers are Teenagers who probably don't have experience in creating deep, imaginative characters. So to see OCs like this is not much of a shock. I mean, I've created LOADS of badly written OCs since I was 12. Now I'm 23 and I've got a few now that I'm very proud of that I feel are balanced, and I try to improve myself, but the point is that you learn and change as you get older. It's almost like a phase, or like when you start a new skill: you suck absolute balls at first, but you get better with practice. :)

And you're right, most OC makers DO want critiques! And I absolutely agree with giving them KIND CONSTRUCTIVE FEEDBACK, rather than outright bullying and harassment. Because at the end of the day, most of them are kids who are just starting out. And I agree that we should lead by example and help them out as best we can. :)

Sorry for such a long comment. This isn't meant as an attack or challenge. ^^; I wanted to give my 2 cents, because while I do see a lot of 'perfect' OCs I also see a lot of bullying of the people who make them, most of it being unwarranted. But, you've made it clear that that is not your goal! And I am all for that! :)
